Become part of the UK's biggest live show

Published : 07 Mar, 2019

The UK’s biggest live action show is staging an Open Call audition for volunteers to join its cast and crew on Wednesday, 13th March from 6pm at Flatts Farm, Bishop Auckland.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Auckland Castle in County Durham, ‘Kynren’ is a spectacular re-telling of 2,000 years of English history featuring a 1,000-strong cast and crew on a 7.5-acre outdoor stage.

The multi-award-winning shows, which run on Saturdays from 29th June to 14th September, (excluding 3 August), feature daring stunts, state-of-the-art special effects, fireworks and evocative orchestral music.

Scheduled to last 90 minutes, the Open Call sessions give prospective volunteers the chance to discover all the opportunities available and the profiles relevant to each role, including the associated commitment.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the Kynren site, learn about the show and listen to Team Leaders to get a feel for what each team does.

Volunteers are needed for the Show Team, the Backstage Team, the Cavalry Team, the Experience Team and the Operations Team.

“We’re looking to recruit great people of all ages, from five upwards, with a range of abilities and interests to join us on-stage or off-stage for this year’s show which is set to be the biggest and most spectacular ever,” said Chris Kemp, Casting Coordinator.

“The Show Team gives you the chance to embrace your inner thespian, dancer and combatant, the Backstage Crew creates all of the amazing costumes and props, the operational teams are our First Aid Team, rescue divers and our Show and Event Operations Teams.

“If you enjoy interacting with people and are outgoing, personable and approachable, the Experience Team is the place for you.

“Our Technical Teams add all the extra specialised layers of pizazz to our show from lighting effects, sound engineering and our pyrotechnics and the Cavalry Team ensure our equine stars are well-fed, exercised, groomed, dressed to the nines, ridden beautifully and driven to perfection,” he added.

Since its creation in 2016 the show has welcomed almost 250,000 visitors, won rave reviews, been judged among the Top Five UK Performances by TripAdvisor and received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Kynren transports its audience on a spellbinding voyage through history, myth and legend, as seen through the eyes of Arthur, the son of a mining family.

The performance encompasses everything from the Roman occupation, the Viking and Norman invasions, medieval feasts, jousting and the splendour of the Tudors, to the English Civil War, the Georgian Renaissance, Industrial Revolution and two World Wars right up to the modern day.

“There are so many reasons to join Kynren: make new friends, spend time with old ones, add new skills to your CV, find the love of your life, escape from a dull job or improve your fitness are just a few of the benefits we hear from people over and over again,” he added.

Anyone interested in finding out more and becoming part of the UK’s biggest live show is invited to attend the next Open Call on Wednesday, 13th March February from 6pm-7.30pm at Flatts Farm, Toronto, Bishop Auckland DL14 7SF. There will be further Open Calls on 27th April, 20th May and 13th June.
